Nanotubes have been attracting much attention owing to their potential applications in electronic, biosensor, and drug delivery system. It is a challenging work to prepare polymer nanotubes with diameter less than 200 nm using layer-by-layer method on nanoporous templates such as anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) and membrane. Because when porous substrates with diameter less than 200 nm were immersed in a polymer solution, polymer molecules can not migrate into the pores and also can not be adsorbed to the inner template walls due to entropic entry barrier. Therefore pore mouth is covered and blocked by polymers. In this study, in order to reduce the entropic barrier, we controlled the ratio of the polymer dimension to the pore diameter and/or molecular weight of polymer, and also tuned chain conformation by adjusting the solution pH and multivalent salt for preventing pore blocking. By controlling these factors, we could synthesize polymeric nanotubes with diameter less than 100 nm. |
