MFI zeolite membranes have been employed to separate a wide range of important molecules because of their chemical and structural properties. There are two layers in the zeolite membrane: the zeolite layer and the porous support layer. Each layer has different thermal expansion characteristics. MFI zeolites generally require the addition of organic template molecules as the SDAs for the synthesis. SDA molecules are trapped in the zeolite channels andusually removed by calcination to activate the membrane, which causes thermal cracks. To alleviate thermal mismatches between the zeolite crystalline layer and porous supporter layer, we modified the zeolite crystalline layer by using the mixed seed. LUDOX silica has a linear thermal expansion coefficient, so they might alleviate the formation of the thermal cracks during the SDAs removal process. This study suggests a facile and inexpensive method for the fabrication of the high-quality MFI zeolite membrane with fewer thermal cracks. |
