The layered silicate-based nanocomposites have attracted a lot of attention of enhancing polymer properties by the addition of a small amount of a properly designed filler. The objective of this study is a preparation of an exfoliated polypropylene(PP)/ montmorillonite (MMT) nanocomposites. MMT modified with dimethyl dihydrogenated tallow ammonium, Cloisite 15A, was purchased from Southern Clay Products(U.S.A.). Polyolefine oligomer with telechelic OH groups, Polytail H (Mitsubishi Chemical, Japan), was used for a compatibilizer as well as a modifier of MMT in order to assist a dispersion of MMT in the PP matrix. PP/MMT nanocomposites were prepared by melt mixing using an Internal Mixer with various contents of PP, MMT and polyolefine oligomer. Morphology of PP/MMT nanocomposites was investigated by X-ray diffraction(XRD) and transmission electron microscopy(TEM). Thermal stability and viscoelastic properties of the nanocomposites were measured by thermogravimetric analyzer(TGA) and rheometric dynamic spectrometer(RDS), respectively.
