A keen interest has been paid to polymer solar cells in both academic and industrial societies. This can be attributed to their prospect for inexpensive manufacturing of solar cells using either conventional glass substrates or thin plastic film substrates. In other words, polymer solar cells can be fabricated by employing wet-coating processes at low temperatures (below ~150 oC), which get rid of using expensive vacuum chambers in manufacturing lines which are one of cost bottle-necks in typical inorganic solar cell fabrications. However, the stability/reliability of polymer solar cells has not been seriously discussed though a couple of research groups have reported recently. Hence this talk will review the recent trend in the stability of polymer solar cells and will raise some issues in early stage decay of solar cell performance in relation with the evolution of nanostructures in polythiophene/fullerene solar cells. |
