Effect of Organoclays on the Properties of Polyurethane/Clay Nanocomposite Coatings |

The properties of polyurethane can be modified by dispersing inorganic and organic fillers in polyurethane matrix. The PU/clay nanocomposites for coating applications were studied. Linear one or multi binding sited(N+) organifiers with two hydroxyl end groups were synthesized and the novel organoclays were prepared through cation-exchange reaction between pristine montmorillonite and the synthesized organifiers. Polyurethane/clay nanocomposites were synthesized by in-situ polymerization method. The effect of various organoclays on the morphology, thermal and mechanical properties of the nanocomposite was investigated. |
