Poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA), one of the most widely used biocompatible polymer, is known for its excellent viscoelasticity, biocompatibility, and hydrophilicity. Poly(acrylic acid) (PAAc) has been extensively applied in biomedical research due to its low toxicity and good biocompatibility. In this study, water soluble PVA and PAAc based hydrogels were prepared by electron beam and gamma-ray irradiation, respectively. The properties of the prepared hydrogels, such as gel fraction, degree of swelling and thermal properties were investigated. These results showed that the PVA/PAAc hydrogels prepared by electron beam irradiation had a better crosslinking density than the gamma-ray irradiation method. |
