Synthesis and Characterization of Er3+-doped Fluorinated Polyimide/Silica Hybrid Materials via Sol-Gel Process for Photonic Applications |

We have investigated Er3+-doped polyimide/silica hybrid materials via sol-gel process for photonic applications. The Er3+-doped hybrid materials were spin-coated on various substrates such as silicon wafer or carboglass, etc. Then, hybrid films were aged at 60 oC for 12 hrs, and further polycondensed by curing at various temperatures. Er3+-doped hybrid materials containing perfluorinated polyimide exhibit stronger PL intensity than those with non-fluorinated polyimide, since the C-F bonds and the Si-O-Si bonds in hybrid materials reduce the vibration lattice relaxation of the Er3+ion's excited state. The near infrared (NIR) emission of Er3+ion at 1530 nm, which is originated from the 4f-4f electronic transition of 4I13/2 to 4I15/2, enhances with the curing temperature and time, due to the more formation of the Si-O-Si bonds in hybrid materials. |
