제목 Covalent attachment of polystyrene on multi-walled carbon nanotubes via nitroxide mediated polymerization.
초록 To fully utilize potentials of carbon nanotubes, various methods have been developed to improve their solubility in organic solvent. One method is the covalent attachment of polymers on carbon nanotubes. In this study, we used nitroxide mediated polymerization (NMP) to graft polystyrene from multi-walled carbon nanotubes. Carboxyl group on MWNT was activated with thionyl chloride (SOCl2) to give acyl chloride derivative (MWNT-COCl). NMP initiator was introduced to MWNT by esterification of hydroxyl alkoxyamine [1-Hydroxy-2-phenyl-2-(2′,2′,6′,6′-tetramethyl-1′-piperidinyloxy)ethane] with acyl halide group of MWNT. The obtained alkoxyamine-MWNT was used for initiation of bulk polymerization of styrene, yielding polystyrene-grafted MWNT (MWNT-g-pSt). The resulting MWNT-g-pSt was analyzed by TEM, IR and TGA and showed improved solubility in THF.
