Model predictive control (MPC) is a practically important control strategy because it canhandle effectively both input and state constraints that are always present in real worldcontrol problems. The theoretical background of constrained model predictive regulation (MPR)started to be established during the last decade. However, some of the claimed stabilityproperties are not completely proven. Moreover, it is recently shown that the constrainedMPR possesses the exponential stability properties that are stronger than those claimedbefore. Hence, in this paper, we first review the existing stability theory for constrained MPR.We then summarize a complete exponential stability theory for constrained MPR. Finally, thefuture directions in MPC research is identified.
