As environmental pollution become serious problem these days due to fossil fuel usage, all over the world wildly investigate eco-friendly energy. Among them Photo-electrochemical(PEC) water splitting system is one of the most noticeable technique for producing Hydrogen energy. For water splitting, cathode for Hydrogen evolution reaction(HER) and anode for Oxygen evolution reaction(OER) is needed. Theoretically, 0.0V (vs RHE) and 1.23V (vs RHE) are used to each electrode. Moreover, extra kinetic resistance is applied to electrodes that more overpotential is made. Relatively OER is more sluggish than HER and require higher voltage. To increase whole systems’ efficiency, OER should be improved. So, it needs oxygen evolution catalyst(OEC). Most effective OEC is RuO2 and IrO2. But they are expensive and rare making generalization difficult. Hence, we research about OEC using earth abundant transition metal. Ni, Fe and Co is excellent OEC. They are cheap and easy to synthesize as electrode. It shows outstanding activity and it is compare with RuO2 and IrO2. Also, it could be used as co catalyst of the other photo & electro-catalyst. |
