In this study, the effects of variations in phosphorus content of electroless nickel coating on mechanical properties of carbon fibers-reinforced composites were studied. The surface properties of nickel-coated carbon fibers were studied by XPS, SEM, and EDS measurement. Mechanical properties of the composites were investigated using inter laminar shear strength (ILSS) and impact test. As a result, mechanical properties were enhanced with suitable amount of phosphorus content. This result can be concluded that the mechanical properties of epoxy matrix composites can be controlled by reliable phosphorus content in the nickel-coated carbon fibers. |
