Reflectance and dielectric constant of glass composites with different type and size of filler |

Recently, oxide fillers containing glass composites have been used in many applications such as display, chip package, solar cell, and fuel cell. The physical properties of the composite depends on a variety of factors, including the shape, the mixing ratio, the size, the physical properties of the matrix and the filler, and the surface morphology of the composite. However, the effect of filler type and size on reflectance and dielectric constant of glass composites have not been analyzed sufficiently. The composites were fabricated with the B2O3-ZnO-BaO glass system and the various types of the fillers in fixed mixing ratio (10vol% of the fillers). The reflectance, the dielectric constant and the microstructure of the composite were investigated using UV-visible spectrometer, LCR-meter and scanning-electron-microscope. The reflectance and the dielectric constant of the composites were varied with the type and the size of fillers in the glass matrix. When the size of the filler was similar to the wavelength of the incident light, the composite showed the highest reflectance. The type and size of the filler were highly related to the reflectance and the dielectric constant of the composite. It is necessary to understand the effect of the type and size of the filler on the light scattering and dielectric property within the composite. |
