To enhance thermal and electrical conductivity of epoxy composites, we prepared epoxy composites contacting hybrid fillers consist of graphite (G), expanded graphite (EG), and copper powder (Cu). Among the fillers, EG were electrolessly silver (Ag)-plated to make better conductivity properties of the composites. Ag-EG, G, and Cu are incorporated into the epoxy resins to form hybrid composites (Ag-EG/G/Cu). Ag-EG surfaces were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive spectroscope (EDS), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Thermal and electrical conductivity of Ag-EG/G/Cu was tested using a laser flash analysis (LFA) and using a four-point probe electrical resistivity tester, respectively. Our results indicated that the thermal and conductivity of the composites was enhanced by addition of the hybrid fillers with the creation of an interconnecting conductive pathway. |
