Waste metal sludge was attractively adopted to candidate for thermally conductive filler, due to its good thermal conductivity, electrical resistivity and low cost. It can be obtained for very low cost and easily applied as a thermally conductive filler without special pre-treatment. In order to validate the applicability of this material as a filler, the thermal conductivity was compared with those of commercial ceramic fillers. Moreover, metal sludge and ceramic particles were chemically modified using a silane coupling agent to enhance interfacial affinity with the polymer. The enhancement in the thermal conductivity of composites made with various fillers after surface modification is also discussed. Additionally, this presentation shows thermal conductivity system consisting of GHP, HFM, LFA457, LFA467, TMA, and DSC, which are available as analytical service provided by Korea Basic Science Institute (KBSI, Daejeon). |
