제목 Advanced Chlor-alkali Membrane Process for CO2 Removal and Valued Chemicals Production
초록 Chlro-alkali (CA) process is an electrochemical system to produce chlorine gas as a major product, and has been perceived as a representative energy-consuming technology. For this purpose, mercury and diaphragm cell processes have been utilized. However, their environment impact required the development of an alternative process. One of promising candidate is membrane cell process composed of an ion-selective polymer electrolyte and electrodes. In the process, electrodes are largely separated from a polymer electrolyte located in electrochemical reaction reservoirs for the fast evolution of product gases. However, it induces an increase in cell resistance and excessive energy consumption. In this presentation, a new approach to minimize the gap between the electrolyte and electrodes is achieved using a fairly different cell structure. Furthermore, highly cation-conductive electrolytes and metal foam electrodes are applied for improved energy efficiency and effective chemical production.
