We report the synthesis of the various end functional group modified poly 3-(hexylthiophene) (P3HT) and the fabrication of the device of modified P3HT/[6,6]-phenyl-C61 butyric acid methyl ester(PCBM) blend. With optimized morphology of blended materials, we obtain the enhanced power conversion efficiency. We attribute the higher efficiency to thermally induced morphology modification and improved transport across the interface between the bulk heterojunction materials from well mixed active layer. Especially, the phase separation of active layer can be controlled by the miscibility changes via the surface energies matching of donor/acceptor materials, in both direction of vertical and horizontal through the total films. The improved nanoscale morphology results in more efficient charge generation and this induced reduced series resistance and higher fill factor contributed to higher solar cell efficiency. |
