제목 | Synthesis and characterization of sulfonated poly(aryl ether ketone sulfone) copolymers as proton exchange membrane for fuel cells |
초록 | As a new power source for transportations, stationary applications and portable power applications, polymer membrane electrolyte fuel cell (PEMFC) systems is attracting increasing attention. Proton exchange membrane (PEM) is one of the most important materials in development fuel cell applications. It served as gas separator and the electrolyte for transporting protons from anode to cathode. The current commercially available proton exchange membrane materials are perfluorosulfonic acid copolymers, which produced by Du Pont and some Japanese companies. Nafion is a typical example of this type of membranes. Although this membrane has high mechanical, thermal and chemical stability along with good conductivity at low temperature (0.1 S/cm at room temperature), its several drawbacks such as a drastic reduction in conductivity at elevated temperatures (low humidity) eg. above 80oC due to loss of water, high methanol crossover through the membrane decrease the cell efficiency in direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC) and very expensive. In this study, we will present the synthesis and characterization of sulfonated poly(aryl ether ketone sulfone) copolymers by potassium carbonate mediated direct polycondensation of sulfonated/unsulfonated dihalide containing sulfone or ketone group with 4,4’-(9-fluorenylidene)diphenol. The basic properties of the sulfonated poly(aryl ether ketone sulfone) membrane for proton exchange membrane fuel cell will be discussed. |
