70-Methanofullerens as Electron Acceptors on Organic Photovoltaic cells |

By replacing PCBM([6,6]-phenyl C61-butyric acid methyl ester) with C70-PCBM([6,6]-phenyl C71-butyric acid methyl ester) in P3HT:fullerene derivative organic photovoltaic cells, more than 5% of energy conversion efficiency has been improved maybe through the enhanced visible region absorption due to the bigger size and elongated shape of C70, but the optimum composition of active materials for the best performance is placed near 1:1 ratio of P3HT:C70-PCBM. According to the research history of P3HT:PCBM device, the efficiency has been improved by reducing the content of PCBM to less than 0.8 times relative to P3HT. Here we try to increase the solubilizing part of C70 derivatives by changing the alkyl chain length of ester group in the tail of the 70-methanofullerens and thus characterize the P3HT:70-methanofullerens photovoltaic cells. |
