제목 Multilayer Films of Poly(ethylene-alt-maleic anhydride) and Poly(4-vinylpyridine) Prepared by the Layer-by-Layer Adsorption
초록 Layer-by-layer (LBL) self-assembly method has been proved to be a simple and powerful technique for construction of ultrathin multilayer films with controlled thickness, composition and surface characteristics. The most widely investigated LBL method is the alternate deposition which involves the self-assembly of oppositely charged polyelectrolytes.
In this investigation, we fabricated multilayer films of poly(ethylene-alt-maleic anhydride) (PEMAH) and poly(4-vinylpyridine) (P4VP) by LBL sequential adsorption process. FTIR spectroscopic analysis of these films confirms that the driving force for the multilayer buildup is the intermolecular hydrogen bonding interaction.
These multilayer films have been characterized using various techniques including UV-visible spectroscopy, quartz crystal microbalance (QCM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), etc. to monitor the assembling process. Figure 1 shows the UV-vis spectra of the self-assembled films with increasing bilayer number. The peak at 256 nm is the characteristic absorption maximum of the pyridine group in P4VP. There is a good relationship between the absorbance at 256 nm and the number of deposition cycles performed with different polymer concentrations as shown in Figure 2.
