Advances in organic thin-film transistor (OTFT) technology have focused on development of organic materials with high charge carrier mobility or solution processability. In this study, we synthesized meso-alkyl substituted copper porphyrins and measured the characteristics of OTFT devices fabricated by solution processing. In general, unsubstituted or aryl substituted porphyrins at the meso-positions display poor solubility in organic solvents. To fabricate transistor device by solution processing, it is important to prepare well-soluble materials in organic solvents. To enhance the solubility of porphyrin, alkyl substituted porphyrins at meso-positions were synthesized and their copper complexes were soluble enough for the use of device fabrication by solution processing. Solution-processed OTFT was fabricated utilizing Cu(II)-tetrahexylporphyrin (Cu-THxP), Cu(II)-tetrabutylporphyrin (Cu-TBuP) and Cu(II)-tetra-3-phenylporphyrin (Cu-T3PeP) as semiconductor materials. |
