In recent years, there is a great demand for the development of surface modification agents which is able to replace the perfluoroalkyl based materials due to the increasing suspicions on the environmental influences of perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA). One of the promising alternatives is perfluoropolyether (PFPE) based compounds because of their low toxicity, biocompatibility, chemical inertness as well as hydro- and oleophobicity. In the present study, we prepared a novel methacrylate monomers containing perfluoropolyether moieties. The fluorinated latex particles were prepared from conventional emulsion polymerizations. The surface properties of the latex films were characterized with various methods such as contact angle measurement, sliding angle measurement and atomic force microscopy. |
