Over the past two decades, the increase in greenhouse gas emissions induced by man-made activities including fossil fuel combustion and semiconductor industry has promoted concerns about global climate change. Membrane-based gas separations are attractive due to their relatively high energy efficiency as well as small footprints. Especially, polymers are practical materials in membrane market since they are economical and easily processable. Nevertheless, their inherently limited separation performance between permeability and selectivity, so-called the upper bound limit needs to be improved for practical applications. Hybrid membranes have garnered great interest as a practical approach to overcome the separation performance limit of current polymeric membranes. In this talk, I will present different hybrid membranes and their applications. |
