Biodegradable polymers, such as poly(L-lactide) (PLLA), polyglycolide (PGA), and polycaprolactone (PCL) are very useful in many biomedical applications. However, their degradation byproducts have been concerned because they are the sources of inflammatory reactions in the body. In this work, PLLA was grafted on surface of MgOH nanoparticle (Mg-OLA) via surface-initiated ring-opening polymerization for the effect of pH neutralization and mechanical reinforcement. The surface morphology, chemical, thermal, and mechanical properties were analyzed by SEM, FTIR, TGA, and UTM, respectively. Mg-OLA nanoparticles were successfully synthesized and their effect on pH neutralization was confirmed. Consequently, the nanocomposites with Mg(OH)2 are effective in improving biocompatibility by pH neutralization as well as enhancing mechanical properties of PLLA matrix. |
