Rechargeable and high-specific-energy lithium batteries are promising power sources for modern portable electronic devices and electric vehicles. However, the severe reactivity of lithium ion electrodes greatly limits the choice of usable electrolytes and incurs safety problems for the commercialization of rechargeable batteries. Solid polymer electrolytes for lithium batteries have many advantages, although their conductivity at room temperature is usually too low to applicable. In this work, the composite electrolytes based on poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) and alkyl-imidazolium salts as room-temperature molten salts were prepared to study the additional salt effects on the structural and electrochemical properties. By using a large volume-size and molten salt rather than conventional salts, the modification of ion transport behaviors could be expected. As a result, the relating physical and electrochemical properties had been modified. |
