In Dye-sensitized solar cells, the most successful charge-transfer sensitizers employed are ruthenium polypyridyl complexes yielding 9-11% solar-to-electric power conversion efficiency and show absorption in the visible region at around 535 nm. However, now the focus is on the dyes that absorb in the NIR region to further improve the efficiency. We have successfully designed and synthesized the squaraine based organic dye that absorbs in the NIR region of the absorption spectrum (650 nm). This smart molecule has the applications in the DSSC, BHJ solar cells, Solid State DSSC, and Quantum Dot Solar Cells. |
