In this work, activated carbon (AC) prepared from rice husks using physical activation and chemical treatment. Rice husk was chemical treated by potassium hydroxide (KOH) and steam was used for physical activation. The influence of activation and chemical treatment on methane storage capacity was investigated. Additionally, textural and morphological properties also examined. The structure information of the activated carbons was measured by X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns. The N2 adsorption-desorption isotherms were measured at 77 K and calculated by Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) equation. The morphology of prepared material was observed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Methane storage capacity was evaluated with a Model BEL-HP instrument (BEL Co., Ltd., Japan) at 298 K and 35 bar. From the result, it was found that the creation of extra porosity introduced by additional chemical treatment affected in methane storage capacity enhancement. |
