Strategies for Functionalization and photo-patterning of Semi-conductor Nanocrystals |

The rapid evolution of microelectronics and organic photovoltaics present new challenges for materials science. Most of the active domains, as well as the mechanisms driving such devices are nanoscale. This presents many difficulties in physically controlling their properties. The physical manipulation of materials on nanometer scale can be done using techniques like AFM. However these techniques are extremely expensive and time consuming to be considered for large scale application. Recently there have been many efforts to control the microstructure of nanomaterials by designing phase formation of ligated nanomaterials, or thermal- and photo-responsive processes. In the presented work we summarize some of our studies aimed at making photopatternable semiconductor nanomaterials for nanoelectronics. We have synthesized both small molecule as well as polymeric ligands for this purpose. The nanomaterials used are CdSe@ZnS coreshell quantum dots and ZnO nanoparticles. |
