제목 Biomimetic and Lyotropic Liquid Crystal Emulsions for Cosmetic Appliucations
초록 Human stratum corneum (hSC) is consisted of several layers of corneocytes embedded in a lipid mixture of ordered lamellar structure. The lipid-rich and well-ordered intercellular regions in the hSC are the continuous domains and these domains play a important role in the skin barrier function. In this study, we prepared liquid crystal emulsions (LCEs) which are expected to improve the skin barrier function and skin penetration of cosmetic active ingredients due to their multi-lamellar structures which are similar to the structure and formulations of hSC. The LCEs were incorporated with amphiphilic molecules in an optimized manufacturing process and identified with polarized light microscopy, X-ray diffraction analysis, cryo-electron microscopy and Mueller matrix method. In skin penetration experiments, we found the LCEs shows higher flux values of the ingredients compared with that of the general emulsions without lamellar liquid crystal phase.
