Electrophoretic control of colloidal nanoparticles is of interest for the applications in displays. While electrophoretic behaviors of colloidal particles in between electrodes have been extensively investigated, the electrophoretic control of colloidal nanoparticles in microcapsule has not been well studied yet. For microcapsulated colloidal nanoparticles, both the geometry of microcapsule and the surrouding dielectric media can affect the electrophoretic movement of particles. When spherical microcapsules are put inside between two ITO electrodes, the strength of electric field experienced by nanoparticels was smaller than that of the case where nanoparticles are placed directly between the electrodes. In this work, we investigated the effects of dielectric media on the electrophoretic control of microcapsulated nanoparticles. The optical properties of colloidal photonic crystals encapsulated in microcapsules have been used for observing electrophoretic movement of nanoparticles. |
