Graphene oxide (GO) has carbonyl and carboxyl functional groups at the edges which bring about unique physicochemical properties. Due to easy functionalization and large surface area, GO is appropriate for being used as a catalytic support. To immobilize palladium on the GO, we used N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) ligand that has been widely used to improve the stability of metal catalyst. We confirmed that the GO functionalized with NHC ligand was well coordinated with palladium (Pd) acetate. The GO-NHC-Pd complex showed remarkable catalytic activity in the Suzuki reaction of 4-chlorotoluene and phenyl boronic acid in water, under mild condition (1hr, 50℃). |
