제목 Characteristics of transesterification of waste animal tallows for biodiesel production
초록 The waste animal tallows such as duck oil, fish oil and lard were adopted as feedstocks on the biodiesel production by transesterification using base catalysts. Potassium hydroxide (KOH) and calcium oxide (CaO) catalysts were induced in the reaction. The yield of fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) was examined according to the varius reaction conditions. The yield of FAME was above 90% in the transesterification from duck oil and lard using KOH catalyst. The yield of FAME in the reaction on CaO catalyst was about 10% lower than that of KOH catalyst. The yield of FAME obtained from fish oil feedstock was lower than those of other animal tallows. It surmised that the reactivity of fish oil was lower since it contains above 15% omega-3 unsaturated fatty acids composed double bond between carbons. The FAME yield in the reaction from mixed animal tallow with duck oil and lard was higher than the yield from mixed animal tallows with fish oil.
