Polyimides (PIs) have outstanding properties such as thermal stability, mechanical properties, and good chemical resistance. Furthermore, PIs have been considered as suitable polymer matrix in preparing organic-inorganic hybrid materials, such as PIs/SiO2 nanocomposites. Conventionally, PIs/SiO2 nanocomposite have been made by sol-gel process. However, on increasing SiO2 content, the sol-gel processed PIs/SiO2 composites showed macro size phase separation, and suffered some problems in thermal stability, mechanical properties and optical properties. In this study, PIs/SiO2 nanocomposites were prepared using organic solvent soluble PIs and polysilazanes (PSZs). Two different types of soluble PIs, PI with polar hydroxyl groups and PI with kinked groups, were used as organic parts and linear/branched PSZ were used as precursors to SiO2. The prepared PIs/SiO2 nanocomposite films were analyzed using FT-IR, TGA, SEM, CA and AFM. |
