제목 | Synthesis of Poly(phenylene oxide)s Containing Trifluoromethyl Groups via Sequential Nucleophilic Aromatic Substitution Reaction |
초록 | The controlled construction of poly(phenylene oxide) (PPO) backbone which only consists of phenyl rings and ether linkages has been a great challenge in the field of polymer synthesis. In this study, as a novel synthetic method for poly(phenylene oxide)s, sequential nucleophilic aromatic substitution reaction was investigated. Several new poly(phenylene oxide)s containing pendent trifluoromethyl groups (CF3-PPOs) were synthesized by nucleophilic aromatic substitution (SNAr) reaction of the monomer containing fluoro and nitro leaving groups (BC type monomer) with hydroquinone, 4,4'-dihydroxydiphenyl ether, and biphenol (AA type monomer), respectively. Based on the leaving and activating characteristics of the nitro group, the polymerization reaction was carried out in a sequential manner-the preferential fluorine displacement reaction followed by the nitro displacement reaction. The synthesized high molecular weight polymers (CF3-PPOs) were amorphous and dissolved well in a wide range of organic solvents. Details of the polymerization, structures and properties of the polymers will be presented. |
