제목 Synthesis of Poly(phenylene oxide)s Containing Trifluoromethyl Groups via Sequential Nucleophilic Aromatic Substitution Reaction
초록 The controlled construction of poly(phenylene oxide) (PPO) backbone which only consists of phenyl rings and ether linkages has been a great challenge in the field of polymer synthesis. In this study, as a novel synthetic method for poly(phenylene oxide)s, sequential nucleophilic aromatic substitution reaction was investigated.
Several new poly(phenylene oxide)s containing pendent trifluoromethyl groups (CF3-PPOs) were synthesized by nucleophilic aromatic substitution (SNAr) reaction of the monomer containing fluoro and nitro leaving groups (BC type monomer) with hydroquinone, 4,4'-dihydroxydiphenyl ether, and biphenol (AA type monomer), respectively. Based on the leaving and activating characteristics of the nitro group, the polymerization reaction was carried out in a sequential manner-the preferential fluorine displacement reaction followed by the nitro displacement reaction. The synthesized high molecular weight polymers (CF3-PPOs) were amorphous and dissolved well in a wide range of organic solvents. Details of the polymerization, structures and properties of the polymers will be presented.
