제목 Grafting polystyrene from oxidized multi-walled carbon nanotubes by nitroxide mediated polymerization
초록 The functionalization of carbon nanotubes (CNT) has been studied to fully utilize their interesting properties since discovery of CNT in 1991. Among various methods, the covalent attachment of polymers on CNT is one method of choice to modify the surface of carbon nanotubes. In this study, we used nitroxide mediated polymerization (NMP) to graft polystyrene from multi-walled carbon nanotubes. Oxidized MWNT was used to increase their reactivity on the surfaces of CNTs with the free radical. The free radical functionalization of MWNT was carried out with an initiator (tert-butyl peroxide) and a nitroxide (TEMPO) to form alkoxyamine in-situ on the surface of CNTs. The TEMPO functionalized MWNT (MWNT-TEMPO) was used as macro-initiator of NMP, yielding polystyrene-grafted MWNT (MWNT-g-pSt). The resulting MWNT composite was analyzed by TEM, SEM, IR and TGA.
