Controlling for Doping Levels of Conducting Polymer Nanomaterials through Irradiation of Ion Beams |

We report on the fine control of doping states on the conducting polymer nanomaterials such as polypyrrole (PPy) and poly (3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) through the irradiation of ion beams. The conducting polymers were prepared by chemical polymerization methods. The effect of the conducting polymers due to the ion beams was analyzed from Raman and ultraviolet-visible (UV/Vis) absorption spectra, in which the structural and conformational changes were confirmed. In order to study electrical properties of the conducting polymers, we measured the current-voltage characteristics of the single unit of the pristine and ion beam treated polymers were measured by using conducting atomic force microscope (AFM) method. As the energy density of ion beams gradually increased, we observed that the conducting polymers were changed from doping states to dedoping states with conformation. |
