Modulated Ionomer Distribution for Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Fuel Cells |

Ionomer distribution is an important design parameter for high performance polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells; however, the nano-scale modulation of the ionomer morphology has not been intensively explored. Here, we propose new routes to modulate the ionomer distribution. We demonstrate that the modulated ionomer distribution increases the electrochemical active area and proton transport property, without losing the oxygen transport property at a fixed ionomer content. Electrochemical analysis which evidence the modulated ionomer distribution and the resulting power performance enhancement are presented and discussed. |
