Radioactive Microhydrogels for Selective Internal Chemo-Radiation Therapy of Hepatocellular Carcinoma |
초록 |
Selective internal radiochemo embolization is an innovative therapeutic approach and provides opportunities for advancement of tumor therapy. Advantages of the use of the microhydrogel are the ability to deliver high dose of radiation to target sites and the feasibility of combination with anti-cancer therapeutic drugs. The retention of radioiodine (131I)-labeled microhydrogels at an injection site with no leakage of free (131I) to normal tissue can provide opportunities for advancing cancer therapy. Doxorubicin-loaded and (131I)-labled microhydrogels with a combination of radiation and chemotherapy showed significant synergistic therapeutic effects on animal cancer models. Here, our recent effort in the development of a novel chemo-radioactive microhydrogel for selective internal chemo-radiation therapy of hepatocellular carcinoma patients will be presented. |
