A Study on the Separation of Ethylbenzene/p-Xylene Binary System with Zeolite Membrane |

In the previous work, we separated an Ethylbenzene(EB) from the xylene mixture(EB/p-xylene(PX)/m-xylene(MX)) by alumina supported MFI-type zeolite membrane which has advantages such as molecular sieve derived from well-defined pores, good thermal, chemical, and mechanical stability. However, many researchers have difficulty to separation of ethylbenzene from p-xylene because of their similar boiling points and kinetic diameter. In this study, we proceed a separation test for EB/PX mixture by permeation method through various MFI-type zeolite membranes (Silicalite-1, TS-1, ZSM-5). Performances of membranes are measured by permeation flux, separation factor of the ethylbenzene. We also try to find the best separation performance of the binary system as changing EB/PX ratio. |
