In this study, the influence of oxyfluorinated conditions on the surface properties of carbon fibers was investigated. FT-IR spectroscopy results indicated that the oxyfluorinated carbon fibers showed carboxyl/ester groups (C=O) at 1632 cm−1 and hydroxyl groups (O–H) at 3450 cm−1. Also, the wettability of the carbon fibers was improved, due to the presence of those oxygen functional groups on the fiber surfaces. Consequently, it can be considered that direct oxyfluorination was proven to be a useful method for increasing the surface polarity and for improving the oxygen functional groups on carbon fiber surfaces. |
