Effect of Chemical Structure of Additives on the Performance of Organic Solar Cells |

Post-treatment is one of the problems to commercialize the organic solar cells because of the low reproducibility. The additive approach allows annealing-free system because they can control the nanoscale morphology without post-treatment. The additives must have higher boiling point than main solvent and different solubility between donor and acceptor. However, these two requirements are not enough to explain all of phenomena. Here, we studied the effect of chemical structure and amount of additives on phase separation of photoactive layers. We synthesized new types of small molecule additives which have similar chemical structures to that of donor and acceptor. These additives are compared with well-known additives structurally not similar to donor and acceptor. At the result, all additives have higher boiling points are effective regardless of chemical structures. The rate of morphology formation may be controlled according to the chemical structures and the amount of additives. |
