Liquid crystals-embedded PVdF-HFP as a quasi-solid-state electrolytes for dye-sensitized solar cells |

New type of liquid crystal-embedded quasi-solid-state electrolytes were tried to obtain high efficiency in quasi-solid-state dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) applications. The role of liquid crystals in the liquid crystal-embedded quasi-solid-state electrolytes is the effective formation of pathway through liquid crystal orientation for transport of redox species. The quasi-solid-state electrolytes consist of I- and I3 redox species included PVdF-HFP as a polymer matrix and liquid crystal (ML-0249 or E7) to increase the order parameter electrolyte components with the easy transport of redox species. The liquid crystal-embedded quasi-solid-state electrolytes showed higher photocurrent and photovoltage than the only PVdF-HFP based electrolyte. Highest effiency of about 5.65% at 1 sun was obtained for the solid-state DSSCs for ML-0249 to PVdF-HFP and E7 to PVdF-HFP under AM 1.5G illumination. |
