4,4-N,N-diphenyl-9-(4-tert-butylphenyl)-1,8-naphthalimide (DBN) was modified to have a polymerizable group. The polymerizable DBN was copolymerized with styrene, to obtain copolymer particles, which were then used as a luminescence conversion (LUCO) material. White LUCO LEDs were successfully fabricated, using a commercial InGaN LED (460 nm) and the luminescent polymer sealed in between two glass plates with silicone. The LUCO LED system was stable enough such that luminescent power was not practically changed during the operating period of 500 h, indicating that organic dyes are appropriately sealed by the current technique. |
