Ligand Eletronic Effects on 2-phenylphenolate Titanium Complexes |

The attachment of electron-donating or electron-withdrawing aryl groups to the 4-position of the 2-phenylphenolate ligand via Suzuki coupling were developed. Corresponding half-titanocene complexes were obtained by reacting the electron-donating or electron-withdrawing aryl group ligands with Cp*TiCl3. CV spectra of complexes were shown clearly by a decrease of reduction potential with increase of electric donating power of aryl substituents. A successful tuning in the catalytic activity of polymerization of ethylene was achieved: the catalytic activity was found to correlate with the Hammett constant of the respective substituents, providing a powerful strategy for prediction of the catalytic activity of new polyolefin catalyst. |
