A series of imidazolium-based ionic polymers with bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide (TFSI) as an anion were synthesized via the free radical polymerization of each monomer with a vinyl group on N(3) of the imidazolium ring. The polymerized ionic liquid (PIL) showed reduced conductivities due to the decrease of ionic mobility after polymerization, compared with the corresponding monomers. The grafting of one ethylene oxide unit (n=1) on N(1) of the imidazolium cation induced the decrease in glass transition temperature (Tg) of the PIL, and the increase in the number of the ethylene oxide unit (n=3) further lowered the Tg. The ionic conductivity of the PILs was affected by Tg, that is, the PIL with the lowest Tg had the highest ionic conductivity. |
