There is growing interest in blending polymers and ionic liquids (ILs) as a simple route to obtain solid-state ion conductors for electrochemical devices. Particularly, significant attention has been devoted to the creation of phaseseparated morphologies for these materials by including mechanically robust polymers on ion-conducting polymer chains in a covalent manner. We investigated ion transport properties of self-assembled block copolymer composed of ILs. By varying the type of anion in the ILs, the highest conductivity was achieved when ILs were confined within ionic domains with a sharp interface. This is attributed to the creation of less tortuous ion conduction pathways. In contrast, the sample displaying rough interfaces between ionic and non-ionic domains has revealed a large reduction in conductivity. This implies that the ion transport properties of self-assembled polymer can be modulated by adjusting internal structures of micro-phase separated polymeric systems. |
