Enhanced airway inflammatory diseases therapy using porous antioxidant microparticles. |

Inhaling anti-inflammatory drugs are used as treatment for asthma. Most steroidal drugs have effectiveness to asthma but causes adverse side effects. Therefore, steroidal drugs administration needs pulmonary drug delivery systems. The biodegradable polymer (PVAX) was developed for scavenge hydrogen peroxide and synergetic antioxidantion and anti-inflammatory effect. In this work, we find the potential of dexamethasone (DEX) loaded porous PVAX microparticles as a therapeutic system for asthma. DEX-loaded porous PVAX microparticels reduced oxidative stress and expression pro-inflammatory tumor necrosis factor-alpha, inducible nitric oxide synthase and showed significantly enhanced therapeutic effects in the lung of ovalbumin asthmatic mice models. Their excellent biocompatibility and intrinsic antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity, PVAX microparticles hold excellent potential as therapeutic systems for the treatment of airway inflammatory diseases. |
