Comparison of Electrical Properties and Reinforcing Effect for Carbon Nanotube and Nanofiber/Epoxy Composites using Electro-Micromechanical Technique |

Carbon nanotube and nanofiber reinforced polymeric matrix composites have attracted considerable attention in the research and industrial field due to their unique mechanical and electrical properties. Carbon nanocomposites have high stiffness, strength and good electrical conductivity at relatively low concentrations of reinforcing materials. In this work, electrical properties including contact resistivity and reinforcing effect for carbon nanotube and nanofiber/epoxy composites using electrical resistivity measurement and micromechanical test. Average diameter of carbon nano-tube and nanofiber were 20 nm and 400 nm, and carbon black was used to compare to carbon nano-reinforcing materials. In same concentration, mechanical properties and electrical conductivity of each carbon materials reinforced polymer composites were measured and compared under tensile and compressive loadings. In low concentration and load, electrical conductivity of carbon nano-reinforcing materials was higher than that of carbon black.
