The core-shell structured silica/graphene oxide (GO) microspheres can be prepared by grafting GO on amine-functionalized silica microspheres (1.5 μm) by amine-epoxy/carbonyl chemical reaction. As a core material, the silica microspheres were modified with ethylene di-amine (EDA) to obtain amine-functional group, while the shell part of GO was prepared by modified Hummers method. The morphology of the silica-GO microspheres was examined by both scanning electron microscope (SEM) and transmission electron microscope (TEM), and thermo-gravimetric analysis (TGA) was performed to detect the thermal stability of silica/GO microspheres. In addition, for the study on the electroresponsive behavior, the silica/GO microspheres were dispersed in silicone oil and their electrorheological (ER) properties were examined by an optical microsphere and a rotational rheometer under an external electric field. |
