Many plant extracts and medicinal herbs have been shown to possess potent antioxidant activity. Catechin is well-known as a very powerful antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and skin wound healing. In this study, catechin/β-cyclodextrin microspheres were incorporated into PVA/Pectin hydrogel to prepare a hydrogel film. The composite was designed for the induction of re-epithelializaton in skin wound. Catechin/β-cyclodextrin microspheres were prepared by molecular inclusion method. The size of the catechin microspheres formed in the hydrogel was in the range of 300~500nm. The antibacterial studies of the synthesized hydrogel containing microshere showed good antibacterial activity against gram-positive bacterium, stphylococus areus. Also, in wound healing test, this catechin-loaded PVA/Pectin hydrogel showed faster healing of the wound made in rat dorsum than the nan-catechin PVA/Pectin hydrogel. In other words, indicating the potential healing effect of catechin-loaded hydrogel. |
