Peptoids are a unique class of peptidomimetics based on oligo-N-substituted glycine scaffolding. As a bioinspired material, the properties of peptoids lie in-between natural biopolymers and non-natural synthetic polymers. Like biopolymers, they are information-rich polymers, offering precise control of main chain length, side chain functionality, and monomer sequence. Peptoids are a synthetic material but it has key features such as programmability and sequence specificity that are unique in biological molecules. Given the unique structural properties, the potential applications of peptoid are widely open in various fields including material sciences and biomedicine. In this presentation I will present our efforts to expand the boundary of the peptoid-based materials including peptoid helices for display of photosynthetic pigments. Synthesis and spectroscopic characterization of peptoid-based biomimetic light-harvesting complexes and their potential applications will be presented. |
